The Chatham Civic Association (hereafter termed "Association") was established "to
promote the general welfare and community activities of Chatham." This includes
providing recreational activities, maintaining health and safety standards,
and enforcing deed and zoning restrictions.
The Association is directed by a council composed of four officers and sixteen
district representatives, elected by vote of the individual district membership.
There are also eight (or more) committee chairpersons appointed by the President.
The Council meets quarterly to govern the affairs of the Association in accordance
with the Constitution and By-Laws of the Association.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Association are to:
- Welcome new residents and to acquiant them with the Chatham Civic Association,
its services and benefits.
- Promote community relations in Chatham.
- Represent Residents regarding zoning, drainage and sewer, utilities and
highway plans affecting Chatham.
- Finance Association activities by setting and collecting dues from residents.
The dues are currently $30 per year per household.
Community events:
- Easter Egg Hunt (partnering with South Graylyn Crest Civic Association)
- Annual meeting of the Association membership.
- Community picnics and social events.
- Halloween Costume Parade (with South Graylyn Crest Civic Association)
Philosophy:
Chatham is one of Brandywine Hundred's loveliest areas in which to live.
The dedication of each resident is necessary to maintain this concept and to
retain the property values of the community.
Resident participation in the work of the Chatham Civic Association is an essential
element to maintaining the area.
Thoughtfulness to one's neighbors and compliance with the Chatham Deed Restrictions
will make a major contribution to continuing the quality of life that Chatham
residents currently enjoy.
Services:
- Provide snow plowing for streets.
- Maintain liason with New Castle County Parks Department, Police and Fire
Departments, County and State officials, and other neighboring community
civic associations.
- Maintain the entrance island on Chatham Drive.
- Maintain liason with New Castle Department of Public Works, State Highway
Department, and Country and State legislators to provide maintenance and
replacement of road surfaces, curbs, drainage systems, etc.
- Enforce the Chatham Deed Restrictions.
